In a previous study, Riffat Mehboob and Anna Maria Lavezzi at the Lino Rossi Research Center, University of Milan, Italy, found that the increased expression of SP in the brainstem tissues of control infants as compared to infants who had experienced sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), suggested that SP/NK-1R may be regulating the ventilatory regulation in newborns (41). The gene discussed is TACR1; the disease is sudden infant death syndrome.
