VEGFA and age-related macular degeneration: Antibodies against vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) improve visual outcomes in most patients with wet AMD.[3,4] In addition, antioxidant vitamins and minerals slow down the progression of moderate or severe dry AMD but fail to prevent the development of moderate AMD from mild AMD.[5] Thus, these therapeutics are best for preventing progression in patients who have already developed moderate or severe disease and are unable to halt or reverse the disease process.
