More recently, we have shown that MFGE8 ligation of αvβ5 induces insulin resistance at the level of the insulin receptor and that blockade of this pathway leads to enhanced insulin sensitivity in the skeletal muscle and liver.39 Our work here identifies a carboxylesterase enzyme that is responsible for the effect of MFGE8 on catabolism of diet-derived cLDs and subsequent regulation of postprandial lipemia.
