Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) gene expression is reduced in the sputum of Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma patients who take inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) compared to those who do not [5, 6], suggesting that ICS may also inhibit SARS-CoV-2 penetration. The gene discussed is ACE2; the disease is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
