Although CX3CR1 was not significantly expressed in CD4+ T cells, overexpression of CX3CR1 in Tregs showed that the CX3CL1/CX3CR1 axis selectively chemotactic Tregs to the aortic plaque of atherosclerotic mice, reducing lipid deposition, increasing the content of collagen and smooth muscle cells to improve plaque stability, reducing the number of proinflammatory macrophages, and inhibiting the progression of atherosclerosis (195). This evidence concerns the gene CX3CR1 and atherosclerosis.
