It has been proven that inhibition of NE synthesis can inhibit NET formation, reduce lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury in rats (Hagiwara et al., 2008; Okeke et al., 2020) and can significantly improve the survival rate of post-CLP septic rats (Kitamura et al., 1994), suggesting the great translational potential of ELANE as an important therapeutic target of septic shock.
