ADAM8 and cancer: ADAM8 contains a multistructural operating domain and performs an essential function in extracellular proteolysis, including the liberation of chemokines and cytokines through ectodomain shedding, such as the immunomodulator, the low affinity IgE receptor CD23, TNF receptor 1 and IL-1 receptor 2, and cleavage of important ECM compounds, such as major constituents of the cancer stroma, such as collagen I, fibronectin and periostin (Conrad et al., 2019).
