CD8+ TL play a role in the pathogenesis of HIV-1, but it is thought that there is an increase in the strength of the immune response [115,116] to change the outcome of the infection by suppressing viral multiplication and decreasing the viral load [117,118], by maintaining adequate levels of IFN-γ, which acts on the innate response, and by means of cytotoxic CD8+ TL action [119,120]. The gene discussed is CD8A; the disease is infection.
