Postnatally, we excluded all CB donors with a history or clinical or laboratory evidence of chorioamnionitis (maternal fever > 38.0 °C, uterine tenderness, malodorous vaginal discharge, maternal leukocytosis > 15,000 cells/mL, maternal raised serum C-reactive protein > 5 mg/L, maternal tachycardia > 100 bpm and fetal tachycardia > 160 bpm) from our analysis as well as CB donors with suspected or confirmed perinatal infection (serum CRP > 5 mg/L and/or IL-6 > 100 pg/mL, tachycardia > 200 bpm, respiratory signs, lethargy, and fever > 38.0 °C or hypothermia). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and Increased total leukocyte count.
