The TCGA database supports that BAAT is significantly under-expressed in HCC cases (** p < 0.01, Figure S2), suggesting that BAAT deficiency is partly responsible for the decrease in taurine-conjugated BAs in the intestine, which would alter the composition of the intestinal bile acid pool and increase its toxicity, thereby promoting the progression of inflammation to HCC. This evidence concerns the gene BAAT and hepatocellular carcinoma.
