CXCL-8/IL8, produced by macrophages, epithelial cells, and airway smooth muscle cells, is a neutrophil chemotactic factor that induces chemotaxis in target cells and other granulocytes to initiate movement toward infection sites, whereas OLR1, a receptor on macrophages, epithelial cells, and airway smooth muscle cells, is involved in rapid oxidization of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), which is more readily recognized by the TLR4 receptor. The gene discussed is OLR1; the disease is infection.
