Interestingly, this downregulation happens despite normal serum iron levels (131.4 ± 23.4 mg/dL) and normal or high ferritin levels (414.4 (328.2-1121) ng/mL) in some HCC patients, as reported in one study (81) or elevated levels of iron, ferritin, and transferrin saturation in the sera of HCC patients compared to control patients in another study (76). The gene discussed is TF; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
