Interestingly, several specific glycosyltransferases are dysregulated in melanoma: abnormal expression of N-glycan branching enzymes, loss of N-acetylglucosaminyltransferases (GCNT2) (22), increase of sialyl-transferases (ST3/6Gal1), α1,2- (FUT1, FUT2) and α1-6 (FUT8) fucosyltransferases (21), all concurring to promote a pro-metastatic phenotype of tumor cells (19, 23, 24). The gene discussed is FUT2; the disease is melanoma.
