Previously, several authors of the current study performed a crystallographic fragment screen of the archetypal protein tyrosine phosphatase, PTP1B (also known as PTPN1) (Keedy et al., 2018), a highly validated therapeutic target for diabetes (Elchebly et al., 1999), cancer (Krishnan et al., 2014), and neurological disorders (Krishnan et al., 2015) that has also been deemed ‘undruggable’ (Zhang, 2017; Mullard, 2018). The gene discussed is PTPN1; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
