Globally, the prevalence of anemia (Hb < 12.0/13.0 g/dL for F/M, respectively) is estimated to be 23.2% (Safiri et al., 2021) and the prevalence of erythrocytosis (defined as Hb > 16.0/16.5 g/dL or Hematocrit (Hct) > 48%/49% for F/M, respectively) is estimated to be in the range of 0.8%–3.4%, in various populations (Ruggeri et al., 2003; Wouters et al., 2019).
