AMPKα1 has been reported to phosphorylate PDHA, driving PDHc activation and TCA cycle, enabling breast cancer cells to adapt to the metastasis microenvironment.15 Another study reported that α-KG is involved in AMPK activation in anoikis resistance that provides pro-metastatic potential in lung cancer.50 While our study implied that AMPKα2 epigenetically downregulates H3K9me2 and inhibits lung cancer metastasis via phosphorylating PHF2.
