Expression of embryonic myosin (MYH3) and osteopontin (SPP1) were however markedly elevated in DE50-MD samples regardless of age, and DE50-MD tongue does exhibit small regions of acid phosphatase staining (Figure 15B, C), implying that this muscle does indeed experience dystrophic degeneration/regeneration, with concomitant inflammation. Here, MYH3 is linked to Menkes disease.
