All the eight m6A-related genes were observed to change significantly under a high glucose in comparison to the normal group, the levels of m6A eraser genes (FTO and ALKBH5) were downregulated, the levels of m6A writer genes (METTL3, METTL14 and WTAP) and m6A reader genes (YTHDF1, YTHDF2 and YTHDF3) were all upregulated under the high glucose conditions (P < 0.05), indicating that m6A was activated under hyperglycemia (Fig. 4E, F).
