MTOR and tuberous sclerosis: mTOR inhibitors are used clinically as immunosuppressive drugs by suppressing T cell proliferation, to mitigate mTOR overactivation in lymphangioleiomyomatosis and tuberous sclerosis, and as local therapy to prevent coronary artery in-stent restenosis; however, human studies of the effect of mTOR inhibition on fibrogenesis have been limited to date.
