FAAH and COVID-19: Considering the production of AEA in COVID-19 patients treated with GCs, we observed that the gene expression of the enzyme NAPE-specific phospholipase D (NAPE-PLD), which is responsible for hydrolyzing NAPE to form AEA, was downregulated (Figure 3e), whereas there was no effect on the expression of the FAAH gene, which is involved in the catabolism of AEA to arachidonic acid (AA) (Figure 3f).
