We observed an early and transient upregulation of pro-inflammatory biomarkers of signaling pathways that participate in the cellular response triggered by viral infection [85] including CXCL10, whose increased levels are usually associated with an urgent transfer to the ICU (intensive care unit) or with death [86], and the prime candidate for mediating inflammation in COVID-19, IL-6 [84]. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL10 and COVID-19.
