G3BP1 and infection: Viruses employ at least three strategies to target and modulate G3BP1 function during infection: (1) enzymatic activity such as proteolytic cleavage or removing post-translation modification (e.g., poliovirus and alphavirus); (2) binding or sequestration (e.g., alphavirus and coronavirus); and (3) redistribution or remodeling of G3BP1 interaction (e.g., norovirus).
