Besides these, two important cellular signaling pathways, namely the formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) and the activation of the NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome, have started unraveling a significant contribution in the inflammatory trajectory from atherosclerosis to ischemia and to infarction and post-infarction phase.
