Interestingly, it has been suggested that MeCP2 plays a role in regulating both subcutaneous adipogenic process and, furthermore, osteogenesis in a rodent model of Rett syndrome [10, 39, 40], therefore, we hypothesized that it may represent a key factor addressing hBMSCs to one or the other differentiation pathway within the bone marrow. Here, MECP2 is linked to atypical Rett syndrome.
