CD24 and gastric cancer: Although CD24 expression displayed a heterogenous pattern in ascites samples from gastric cancer patients, studies in TMK-1 (poorly differentiated), 44As3 (signet ring cell/diffuse-type), and NCI-N87 (intestinal-type) gastric cancer cell lines showed that hypoxic conditions could induce the expression of CD24 in CD24 negative cells leading up to a 60-fold increase in CD24.
