Based on international experience in carefully selected patients, elevated concentrations of 14-3-3 or T-tau proteins in CSF have ~90% sensitivity and specificity for sCJD (9), although unlike 14-3-3 protein, increased CSF T-tau is not currently part of the World Health Organization (WHO) endorsed internationally recognized diagnostic criteria for CJD (10). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Creutzfeldt Jacob disease.
