ELOVL1 and hydrops fetalis: Interestingly, during the postnatal time point, postnatal male hepatic relative gene expression of Elovl1 was significantly decreased in the HFCO-HF group versus the negative control, NFCO-NF (p = 0.008; Post-hoc Fisher LSD; Figure 6B), consistent with the lower nervonic acid abundance in the HFCO-HF group (Figure 5F), indicating the role of prenatal plus postnatal HF feeding in decreasing the synthesis of VLCFAs.
