Searching libraries of small molecules for compounds with high binding affinity for SMYD3 led to the identification of an inhibitor, designated inhibitor 4 as shown in Scheme 5, which disrupted uncontrolled oncogenic cell proliferation without affecting normal cell functioning in epithelial breast cancer, lung cancer, and colon cancer cell lines [43]. The gene discussed is SMYD3; the disease is malignant colon neoplasm.
