In contrast to the transcript levels, CLOCK and CRY1 protein levels were lower under steatosis conditions compared to fructose treatment (p = 0.01, p = 0.005, respectively, Student’s t-test) (Figure 5B,D, Supplementary Figure S2), suggesting a direct effect of the fatty acid mixture regardless of the monosaccharide.
