YTHDF1 and cancer: In the brain, YTHDF1 recognizes and binds the mRNAs of m6A-modified glutamate ionotropic receptor NMDA type subunit 1 and 2A (GRIN1, GRIN2A), glutamate ionotropic receptor AMPA 1 (GRIA1), calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase (CaM kinase) II alpha and II beta (CAMK2A, CAMK2B) genes to promote translation, while YTHDF1 deletion causes the ectopic translation of related proteins, resulting in memory loss [18]; moreover, the upregulation of YTHDF1 promotes cancer stem cell properties in glioblastoma cells [19].
