This metabolic amelioration was accompanied by a reduction in BAT whitening, revealed by a decrease in brown adipocyte area, steatosis and transcription of the lipogenic factors Pparg2, Mogat2 and Dgat1. By contrast, the switch to ND in the sham-operated animals only improved BAT weight and CSA, without significant changes in the expression of lipogenic factors, supporting that the beneficial effects of sleeve gastrectomy on BAT whitening are beyond caloric restriction. The gene discussed is PPARG; the disease is steatosis.
