Compared to patients with normal AFP levels, a smaller proportion of patients with elevated AFP were male (p = 0.02), had a pathological diagnosis of HCC (p < 0.001), were in AJCC stage 1 or 2 HCC (p < 0.001), had a solitary tumor (p < 0.001), were in BCLC stage 0 or A HCC (p < 0.001), were in Child–Pugh class A (p < 0.001), and had a low body mass index (BMI) (p < 0.001).
