Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), such as antibodies against programmed death-1 (PD-1), PD-1 ligand (PD-L1), and cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 (CTLA-4), have considerably improved the prognosis of patients with various types of cancer, especially in cancers with "inflamed" tumors characterized by high immune cell infiltration, high PD-L1 expression, and high mutation burden [1,2,3].
