The excessive expression of proteins, such as P-GP1/ABCB1 (P-glycoprotein 1, also known as ATP-binding cassette subfamily B member 1 or ATP-dependent translocase ABCB1) and BCRP/ABCG2 (breast cancer resistance protein, also known as ATP-binding cassette subfamily G member 2 or broad substrate specificity ATP-binding cassette transporter ABCG2), causes multidrug resistance (MDR), which is a significant barrier to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. This evidence concerns the gene ABCG2 and breast carcinoma.
