Based on our previous findings in murine models (9), our present study may support a similar mechanism for under stressed cardiomyocytes which indicates that an increased production of H2S or H2S producing enzyme by SG-1002 may activate nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), in turn causing the elevation of antioxidant gene expression/antioxidants levels and decreasing the levels of oxidative stress resulting in protection of cardiac cells from damage leading to the inhibition of myocardial hypertrophy/HF (Figure 8). Here, NFE2L2 is linked to cardiac hypertrophy.
