In contrast to our findings, however, previous in vitro studies showed that T. gondii infection may activate the inflammasomes NLRP3, NLRP6, and AIM2 and, by extension, IL-1β secretion in the FHs 74 epithelial cells of the human small intestine and in human leukemia THP-1 monocytic cells whether or not the P2X7 receptor is present [35,36].
