The presence of genetic mutations associated with AATD was found to be a predictor factor associated with a higher likelihood of suffering a severe COVID-19 case [OR 1.294 (CI95%: 1.038–1.612), p = 0.022], which was consistent with studies that confirmed a correlation between the frequency of Pi*Z and Pi*S alleles and mortality rates due to COVID-19 [7]. This evidence concerns the gene SERPINA1 and alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency.
