LDHA and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: Interestingly, a recent study showed that treatment of cisplatin-resistant lung cancer cells (H69 and H460) with Riluzole, a drug used in clinical treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, resulted in an inhibition of lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA) and xCT antiporter (SLC7A11), leading to a blockage of glutamate transport, an elevation of cellular ROS, and cytotoxicity to lung cancer cells [28].
