Ferhani et al. also described bronchial epithelial cells as being a potential source of HMGB1 in the airways of patients with COPD, which is in agreement with other studies that reported that hydrogen peroxide may trigger the expression and release of HMGB1 from bronchial epithelial cells in vitro [35,41,42]. The gene discussed is HMGB1; the disease is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
