SNCG and breast cancer: The first synuclein (α-synuclein, αS) was described as a presynaptic protein in Torpedo californica, localized in the electric organ [4], followed by β-synuclein (βS) as a phosphorylated 14 kDa protein in the presynaptic terminal in the rat brain [5], and then γ-synuclein (γS), which was first described in breast cancer as breast-cancer-specific gene 1 (BCSG-1) before observation in the brain and the recognition of homology with the other synucleins [6].
