VWF and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency: Since increased levels of the procoagulant factors fibrinogen, factor VIII (FVIII) and von Willebrand factor (vWF) are associated with an increased risk of both VT and CVD and also with shared risk factors such as increasing age and obesity[6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13], we hypothesize that increased levels of coagulation factors might, at least in part, explain the increased risk of CVD in patients with prior VT.
