Current studies have shown that fungal keratitis can cause an experimental inflammatory response in the corneal tissue, resulting in a decrease in the levels of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX2), superoxide dismutase (SOD-1), and glutathione peroxidase (GPX2) in human corneal epithelial cells (HCECs), as well as activation of ferroptosis (Qin et al., 2022). Here, GPX2 is linked to fungal keratitis.
