IL6 and Gaucher disease: Notably, elevated cytokines found in SARS-CoV-2 (IL-2R, IL-6, IL-10, MIP1-α, and TNF-α), are reminiscent of the pattern described in Gaucher disease (23, 36, 37), and although generally macrophages are not considered to be direct targets of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, preliminary evidence from human autopsy material indicated that ACE2-expressing CD169+ macrophages in the spleen and lymph nodes to be positive for SARS-CoV-2 nucleoprotein antigen, suggesting their contribution to viral spread and inflammation in SARS-CoV-2 infection (38).
