Interestingly, in SCA patients we also detected the decrease in mass/activity of plasma phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP) (data not shown) which functions as a bridge exchanging phospholipids between different types of plasma lipoproteins (e.g., high-density lipoprotein or HDL and low-density lipoprotein or LDL) and plays critical role in lipid metabolism and cardiovascular diseases (e.g., atherosclerosis) [20, 21]. Here, PLTP is linked to atherosclerosis.
