Generally, MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-8, MMP-10, MMP-12, and MMP-13, among other MMPs, are significantly upregulated during hepatic IRI (Cursio et al., 2002; Hamada et al., 2008); MMP-8 appears to be among the candidates for anti-fibrotic function, and overexpression of this has been found to correlate with enhanced hepatocyte proliferation and a reduction in liver fibrosis (Iimuro et al., 2003; Harty et al., 2005; Endo et al., 2011). This evidence concerns the gene MMP2 and Hepatic fibrosis.
