ALOX5 is a non-heme iron-containing dioxygenase that encodes lipoxygenase and metabolizes AA into hydroperoxyderivatives (5-HPETE) and further into 5-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (5-HETE), conferring growth, invasion, and chemopreventive advantage in cancer cells (Tang J. et al., 2021; Zhang et al., 2022).
