Wang et al. [14] studied the ability of C3G and its phenolic acid metabolites to attenuate the visible light-induced retinal degeneration and found out that the C3G, protocatechuic acid, and ferulic acid caused a higher secretion and expression of heme oxygenase (HO-1) and nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), indicating the attenuation of the secretion or expression of inflammation-related genes. The gene discussed is NFE2L2; the disease is retinal degeneration.
