The number of EVs/μL derived from BAL macrophages (CD14+) was significantly higher in smokers with (p < 0.001) and without COPD (p = 0.007) than in nonsmokers and also significantly higher in smokers with COPD than in smokers without COPD (p = 0.046, Figure 1A). The gene discussed is CD14; the disease is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
