Apparently, this could be explained by the fact that β4+ tumor cells associated with liver metastasis, also expressed EpCam, cytokeratins, E-cadherin, and N-cadherin, i.e., these cells could be in two states—without EMT manifestations or could have a hybrid EMT phenotype (in the case of co-expression of E-cadherin and N-cadherin). This evidence concerns the gene EPCAM and neoplasm.
