In the initial step of endometriosis, the NF-κB pathway induces upregulation of adhesion molecules, including Decoy receptor 3 (DcR3) [35], homing cell adhesion molecule (CD44), intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) [36], which affect the aberrant adhesion of endometriotic cells in the ectopic locations [35].
